Eating the right foods can vastly improve your mental agility, memory and concentration. If you have a busy study week with long days involving hours upon hours of concentration, make sure you include enough of the following foods to help your brain feel awake! What’s more, these can be picked up with ease at your local supermarket.
Pumpkin Seeds
Packed with zinc, you will only need a quick handful to meet your daily requirement of this important element. Zinc has been proven to improve memory and complex thinking skills.
Blackcurrants
We hear a lot about ‘superfoods’ these days, but the humble blackcurrant really is! Researchers found that the blackcurrant has greater levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than most other fruits. A great fuel for your brain and can even help with the prevention of Alzheimer’s.
Blueberries
The health benefits of blueberries are endless, but they also have fantastic attributes to improve memory, alertness and concentration.
Nuts
Nuts are a natural source of Vitamin E, which is apparently great if you keep forgetting things. Nuts also contain omega 3 fatty acids which can help with your mood, concentration and focus.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in a powerful antioxidant called lycopene, which has been shown to inhibit cancer, including in the brain. There is also good evidence to suggest that it can protect against the kind of cell damage that leads to dementia.
Broccoli
The often overlooked broccoli contains masses of Vitamin K, which boosts your concentration, helps your memory and improves cognitive function.
Oily Fish
I’m sure most of us have heard of the health benefits involved in consuming Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids in oily fish, but did you know it can also be crucial in brain development and mental clarity. Try to include oily fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel into your diet two or three times a week.
Spinach
Not just a super food for Popeye! Researchers have found people who included healthy amounts of spinach in their diet have more mental agility and cognitive abilities later in life.
Sage
Modern research by the Medicinal Plant Research Centre has confirmed the centuries-old claims, with sage oil clearly boosting word recall.
Cocoa Products
Here we are only talking about high-quality dark chocolate with at least a 75% cocoa bean content. With minimal processing, the cocoa bean retains the flavonoids that improve circulation and therefore blood flow to the brain.
So there we have it, include more of these in your diet and you should have your brain in tip-top condition. Please remember to leave a comment if you have anything to add, alternatively visit out Facebook or Twitter pages.
